Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid underwent surgery on November 10 for his left hand to repair a torn radial collateral ligament and he has been progressing towards his return. He has missed four games thus far, and the Sixers are 2-2 in those games, and he put some shots up pregame on Wednesday while wearing a cast.
As the team convened for practice on Thursday, the team gave an official update on the superstar as they said he had a follow up with a doctor for a new evaluation and that there would be another update in about a week. They did add that he has been officially cleared for non-contact conditioning drills.

Just to give fans an idea of what this means, the big man was seen going through some different drills with the coaching staff after practice.

Philadelphia would love to have their leader back sooner rather than later and these are all good steps towards a possible return fairly quickly. The Sixers are sitting 10 games above .500, but they are also just the 6 seed in the Eastern Conference. They need to put together a run fairly soon in order to earn home-court advantage for the playoffs. [lawrence-related id=23601,23592,23575]
