Why the LSU’s National Championship is good news for the Dolphins

The LSU Tigers are National Champions — and that is great news for the Miami Dolphins’ plans in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The LSU Tigers have dethroned the Clemson Tigers from the top of the college football mountain! LSU stumbled out of the blocks early before the presumed future #1 overall pick, QB Joe Burrow, took control of the football game and wore out the Tigers down the stretch. The final score? 42-25.

The Miami Dolphins likely had no real rooting interest in this game — but the result we saw last night is the best case scenario for Miami. Why?

Because this LSU Tigers team is stocked to the brim with high end talent eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft. And with LSU successfully completing their perfect season and accomplishing everything a college program possibly could this past season, many of the LSU’s gifted underclassmen will have checked every possible box for a successful college career. With the NFL knocking on the door, there’s less of a chance these players stay.

That’s good for Miami in the sense that it loads up the top of the 2020 NFL Draft. Some of these players are scheme fits for Miami, but even the ones that aren’t will help push other talented players to Miami with their later draft selections. One of the biggest names to watch for the Dolphins?

Linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson. Chaisson is a redshirt sophomore and an absolute terror off the edge. If he were to declare and be on the board when Miami picks at 18, it becomes a home run selection for the Dolphins — he’d bring speed, power, versatility and budding pass rush skills to a team that sorely needs more juice and burst off the edge.
