The Washington Redskins might end up taking a whole new approach to offense in 2020 under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Scott Turner.
As ESPN’s John Keim pointed out, the Redskins ranked near last in the NFL in terms of passing on first downs. The Panthers under Turner? Second-most in the NFL at 263 out of 485.
Granted, the Redskins don’t have a Cam Newton under center. But it speaks to the aggressiveness fans could see starting next year from Dwayne Haskins. The last coaching staff, almost regardless of starter, preferred to ground and pound often.
That line of thinking as a whole is looking archaic largely due to the emphasis on passing these days. That’s at least good news in the form of more Haskins shots at Terry McLaurin, not to mention a new coaching staff doing so within the confines of a different offense more tailored to this approach.
