Zion Williamson’s slow progression to returning to the Pelicans has picked up steam in the last week. On Monday, Williamson took part in a closed-door, 4-on-4 scrimmage with coaches and players. On Tuesday, he returned to practice to take part in 5-on-5 drills with Alvin Gentry pleased with his performance.
Williamson’s arrival will bring a new dynamic to the Pelicans’ offense, one that has begun to really start clicking in recent weeks. Lonzo Ball talked about what it will be like for Williamson to be back on the court in a few weeks.
“It’s going to be amazing when he gets back, especially for my game. He’s going to open up a lot of things for shooters, for sure, because people are going to suck in and he’s going to make the right play.”
Ball and Williamson had noticeable chemistry on the court together during the preseason, hooking up for lobs with each party being the passer and the finisher at different points.
When asked what led to such strong chemistry, Ball noted how well he and Williamson fit in a lineup together.
“Our games just complement each other. He gets out on the break. He’s a big, physical body. He screens and roll, I come off for the screen and pass. You know, we’ll help each other a lot.”
As the Pelicans continue to push for the playoffs, Williamson could be the second-half spark that pushes them over the top.
