New Washington Redskins head coach Ron Rivera has already found a defensive coordinator in Jack Del Rio.
And Del Rio has decided to bring along his preferred scheme — the 4-3.
For Rivera, the task of switching his current crop of players into the new scheme won’t be too terrible.
Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan summarized what Rivera told the media on this topic:
“Ron Rivera seems very confident in the #Redskins’ defensive personnel being able to transition to the 4-3. Liked that he says his front will stop the run on their way to the QB, meaning he will be asking Payne, Allen and Ioannidis to get up the field.”
That’s a big nod of approval for the guys already on the roster. Rivera and Co. will clearly add more in the way of talent during free agency and the draft, but the fact the confidence to make the change is already there is a good sign.
As always, it starts up front with Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen. Rivera’s comment is clearly the biggest sign yet he’s excited to have budding stars like that up front.
