Lonzo Ball sets new career-high with seven threes vs. Rockets

Lonzo Ball showed off his continually improving three-pointer against the Rockets on Sunday with a career-best performance behind the arc.

Lonzo Ball set a new career-high in three-pointers in a single game on Sunday, bagging seven threes in 12 attempts as part of a 27-point performance. His outing, along with a strong fourth quarter from E’Twaun Moore, was enough to help the Pelicans win a fourth straight game with a 127-112 result over the Rockets.

After going 4-of-8 from three against the Pacers, Ball had his first occurrence of hitting four three-pointers in consecutive games on Sunday. His shooting performance over the weekend was just the latest in a string of strong outings.

Since returning to the starting lineup four games ago, Ball is shooting 14-for-30 from three. Over the last eight games, he has hit 21 of his 50 attempts from beyond the arc. Even since returning from an injury on Dec. 1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Ball is shooting 37.5% from three over his last 15 games, a stark contrast from his 32.6% career average.

This season, Ball has seen his three-point percentage ebb and flow. But he’s still averaging 36.1 percent from the arc on the year. Take out the five-game stretch after returning from injury where he shot 7-of-27 from three, by far his worst stretch of the season, and Ball is shooting 38.2% from three on the year on 131 attempts.

Ball’s constantly improving jumper has shown steady improvements throughout the season. With his percentages reflecting that improvement as the season progresses, Ball could finally be finding the consistency in his jumper that has long alluded him in the NBA.
