Irish in the NFL: Tyler Eifert speaks on impending free agency

Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish tight end Tyler Eifert is set to hit free agency, and could cash in after a healthy 2019 season.

Former Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert is about to appear in all 16 games this season, for the first time since 2013.

While his production (402 yards and three touchdowns) hasn’t been anything to write home about, Eifert’s health and the relative dearth of good tight end options in the NFL should allow him to cash in during free agency, which he’s set to reach at the conclusion of the season.

Eifert has spent his entire career in Cincinnati, but the team’s impending change at quarterback and overall lack of success could push him to look elsewhere.

“It just depends on what’s out there and what the deals look like,” Eifert said. “There are so many different factors you have to weigh. I’m sure my agent and I will have a plan on what would be best … It all just depends. I don’t even know what the picture looks like right now.”

Eifert re-signed with the Bengals last offseason, but a return this year certainly seems less likely. Where he lands is yet to be determined, but expect the former Irish star to cash in after a healthy 2019 season.
