The Arizona Cardinals could go without rookie quarterback Kyler Murray in the season finale. He has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him limited in practice this week.
Officially, he is questionable for the game.
Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Murray would be a game-time decision on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. He expressed some doubt that Murray would be ready.
“He’s getting more work but I’m not sure if he’ll be ready to go on Sunday,” he told reporters after practice on Friday. “Brett (Hundley) has been getting work than him at this point.”
Kingsbury said he was pleased with what he saw from Hundley in practice. The team will elevate quarterback Drew Anderson from the practice squad as well, “so we have every scenario covered.”
Signs seem to point to Murray being inactive on Sunday with Hundley starting and Anderson backing him up.
Kingsbury said Murray will play only if he can “play at a high level,”
“I want him to be able to play his game,” he said, noting that his mobility is a big part of that. He won’t feel comfortable with him going against a Rams defense that pressures quarterbacks very well if Murray isn’t confident and competent.
“We’ll make sure he’s feeling great about the situation,” he said. “If he’s not, I really like what I’ve seen from Brett in practice.”
