Kyler Murray’s injury status uncertain, but ‘if he’s able to play, he’s going to play’

Kliff Kingsbury won’t shut him down just to shut him down.

The Arizona Cardinals have one big question as they look ahead to Week 17 and their season finale against the Los Angeles Rams on the road. Will rookie quarterback Kyler Murray play?

Murray left the Cardinals’ Week 16 win over the Seattle Seahawks in the third quarter with a hamstring injury.

Murray was set to have an MRI on Monday and is considered day-to-day.

Speaking with the media on Monday, Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury didn’t have much in the way of new information but did say shutting down Murray for the final game just to shut him down wasn’t an option on the table.

“I’m so big on reps and mental reps compared to game reps,” he said.

Playing on the road in Los Angeles against a talented team is something that can’t be duplicated.

“Those are all reps that could be huge going unto the offseason,” he added. “So if he is able to play, he’s going to play, and if he’s not, we’ll get Brett (Hundley) rolling.”

Kingsbury said that Murray was sore.

Murray said after the game on Sunday it was some tightness he felt.

The Cardinals will practice Tuesday for the first time, have the day off on Christmas and then practice on Thursday and Friday.

So far this season, Murray has completed 64.6% of his passes for 3,397 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also has 544 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
