The family of 49ers quarterback CJ Beathard received the tragic news Saturday that Beathard’s brother, Clayton Beathard, was killed in a stabbing early Saturday morning.
Clayton, 22, was one of two people stabbed during a fight outside Dogwood Bar in Nashville, Tenn. at 2:50 am Saturday according to a police report. The other was 21-year-old Paul Trapeni III.
The police report says there was an argument over a woman that began inside the bar. That argument turned into a physical altercation after the disagreement moved outside.
Beathard, Trapeni and a third victim were all transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Beathard and Trapeni died there. The third victim survived and was released following treatment.
Nobody was arrested in the killings. Police are still looking for the suspect.

The 49ers family was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the tragedy involving C.J. Beathard’s younger brother, Clayton. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to C.J. and the entire Beathard family as they cope with the unthinkable loss of a loved one. C.J. has traveled home to join his family knowing he has the support of our entire organization as they grieve the passing of Clayton.
Clayton was a quarterback in his junior season at the Long Island University and a Sports Management major according to the school’s athletics website.

CJ Beathard was a third-round pick of the 49ers in the 2017 draft out of Iowa. He’s started 10 games across two seasons in San Francisco.
