Always a fan of the game, LeBron James has never been shy to credit the generations that have followed him for how great they are playing or for how bright their future will be.
With a showdown approaching against reigning 25-year old MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks, James’ comments on his growth were glowing. But his comments were almost as glowing for the Milwaukee front office for the teams they’ve surrounded Giannis with over the last few years.
In a big preview for the Bucks-Lakers game by The Athletic’s Brett Dawson, James gave his impressions on Giannis’ growth and how the Bucks roster complements him.
“He’s gotten better every single year that he’s been in the league,” James said on Antetokounmpo. “They’ve surrounded him with a lot of good pieces to help maximize his talent. More importantly, they’ve done a great job as far as the front office over there of bringing in guys that complements his game. that’s the most important thing I believe.
“I think Giannis has gotten better. Gotten better every year. But they’ve allowed him to get better because they’ve surrounded him with guys that complement his game to a T, if that makes sense.”
Their careers head-to-head started when Antetkounmpo was just a smoothie-loving rookie so the record isn’t very close between the two all-time. LeBron is 14-4 against Giannis All-Time, but Giannis has won two out of the last three meetings between their two teams.
Neither team will be looking to protect a win-streak, meaning they have a clean slate and just the moment ahead to focus on, and they will be playing for pride in what may be a preview of the 2020 NBA Finals.
According to several sportsbooks, Antetokounmpo is viewed as the heavy favorite to repeat as the league MVP.
