With just two games remaining for the Indianapolis Colts, they continue to climb the pick order for the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.
Officially out of the playoffs and looking toward the offseason, the draft is a big event. It has been proven that general manager Chris Ballard prefers to do most of the building through the draft rather than splurging on veterans in free agency.
Entering Week 16, the Colts hold the No. 14 pick in the first round of the draft.
It will be an interesting offseason of speculating how the Colts will go about their draft. There seems to be a disconnect between the media and the team on the future of quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
While most of the media believes Brissett hasn’t shown enough to warrant holding the starting job much longer, the team is still putting their vote confidence behind the 27-year-old with one season left on his current contract.
Most will peg the Colts as suitors for a quarterback in the upcoming draft. Names like Jordan Love, Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa are likely to be the most popular options for the Colts leading up to the draft.
Whether the Colts will go that route or add some depth to the wide receiver corps or the interior defensive line remains to be seen. The draft is still months away so it’s truly impossible to know right now.
This should be an interesting offseason for the Colts and one that holds a lot of weight for the future. The upcoming draft will play a major role in that.
