Brandon Scherff is in New York meeting specialists about his injuries

The Redskins guard is in the final year of his contract.

The Washington Redskins missed starting guard Brandon Scherff on the field during Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Monday, Scherff was in New York meeting with a specialist over his shoulder and elbow injuries, according to ESPN’s John Keim.

This development comes at a critical time for both parties. Scherff, 27, is a free agent after the season and the Redskins haven’t been able to get him to sign an extension.

Scherff is one of the NFL’s better guards and somebody the Redskins would likely want to retain. But the fact he hasn’t played a full 16-game season since 2016 is a flag that will surely continue to come up in negotiations.

From here, each Scherff update with have a big impact on the Redskins’ long-term outlook.
