Wayland Baptist University senior J.J. Culver, brother of Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Jarrett Culver, made college basketball history on Tuesday night, becoming just the second NAIA player to score 100 points in a game.
According to the Plainview Herald, Wayland coach Ty Harrelson picked the game against Southwestern Adventist to try and feed the ball to Culver, in the hopes that he’d be able to break the team’s single-game points record with 50. Culver accomplished that feat in the first half, and just kept on scoring.
Via MyPlainview:
“After I broke the record, I knew I could score a lot more,” said Culver. “I had the record at halftime and they were like, ‘J.J., can you get 75? 80?’. I was like, ‘Honestly, guys, I think I can get 100.’ They were like okay, okay.”

Culver took 62 shots from the field and shot above 50 percent for the game, and went 20-of-27 from the free throw line. Taylor is the first college player to break the 100-point mark since Grinnell College’s Jack Taylor did it twice in back-to-back seasons in 2012 and 2013.
