Indianapolis Colts tight end Eric Ebron isn’t likely to return this season after having procedures done on both of his ankles, but those surgeries were a success on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old tight end was placed on the injured reserve list last week due to the ankle injuries—a decision he made himself—and tweeted Thursday that the operations went smoothly.
Surgery was a success yesterday. Thank you God for watching over me. Thank you Dr. Anderson and his crew. Road to recovery and a exciting 2020 season on the way! – Mr. Red Zone

The former first-round pick didn’t have quite the same production he enjoyed when he put up career numbers during the 2018 season. In 11 games, Ebron caught 31 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns.
Ebron is an impending free agent set to hit the unrestricted market in March when the new league year begins. That is unless the Colts sign him to an extension before that. While Ebron has shown he can be productive, there is no guarantee a deal happens between the two parties.
Both Ebron and veteran tight end Jack Doyle are set to be free agents, so the Colts will certainly be in the market at the position. However, their futures with the team are still unclear.
Regardless, it is good news that Ebron’s surgery was successful as he focuses on getting ready for the 2020 season and the Colts focus on continuing the build-up of the roster.
