Championship… December?

The Sooners will face Baylor for their second time this season, but this time for the Big 12 title. Their first meeting yielded the largest comeback win in Oklahoma history. Since then the Bears have earned two more wins. Here’s a look at their stats since they last saw the Sooners.

Foot, meet gas

Since allowing the Sooners to score 24 unanswered points, the Bears have only allowed 16 points in their last eight quarters. Texas earned just 10, and Kansas just 6. The Bears allowed 391 offensive yards versus Texas, but kept them out of the end zone. They allowed Kansas to gain just 258. Their defense has been stout, but no team can replicate Oklahoma’s offense.

Ground-and-pound

Offensively, the Bears have gained 898 total yards since being shutout in the second half of their matchup with the Sooners. Charlier Brewer hasn’t been fantastic, but their rushing game has. They’ve amassed 427 yards on the ground in their last two games. Oklahoma finished with 283 rushing yards against Oklahoma State. Whoever wins the ground-game could very well win the Big 12 Championship.

Hot and Cold

In their fist meeting, Denzel Mims had six receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns against the Sooners almost all of which came in the first half. Mims had 7 receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown against Texas, but just four receptions for 53 yards against Kansas. If the Sooners secondary, who’s coming off a solid game, can stop Mims, they’ll have a solid chance to win their fifth straight Big 12 championship.
