Alex Smith is anxious to get back on the field and play some football. But the Washington Redskins quarterback is also making sure he’s helping out rookie Dwayne Haskins as much as he can.

Wednesday, Smith was seen on the field working with Haskins, per video shot by JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington.

And Haskins hasn’t been shy about praising the veteran on social media. But Finlay also caught a brief quote from the rookie: “I really appreciate him since he’s been here with me trying to help me.”

Haskins is the starter for the rest of this season and the Redskins would be wise to let him ease through the growing pains as the games unfold.

Looking ahead to next year, Haskins and Smith are the only two guys slated to be under contract at the position. Smith’s recovery and whether he ends up getting on a football field again will heavily shake up the Resdskins offseason one way or another.
