9 thoughts about the third practice of Bengals training camp

Takeaways and thoughts from Bengals training camp.

The Cincinnati Bengals hit the practice fields near Paycor Stadium for training camp practice No. 3 on Friday.

While Joe Burrow “rested,” in a manner of speaking, guys made names for themselves, and the team even made some roster moves.

Some thoughts:

  1. Joe Burrow had the day off from throwing so he….punted…a lot. Maybe that shows up in a niche spot during the season, who knows? Anyway, he’s said he wouldn’t throw three days in a row this early in camp on that rehabbed wrist, so his not throwing wasn’t a big deal.
  2. No practice again for Ja’Marr Chase, though he was out there and very involved, almost as a coach. If it’s a hold-in (that’s a real thing, yes), we’re not quite there to calling it as such. Let’s see Monday.
  3. Breakout candidate Chase Brown was on kick returns, so there’s yet another area he could have a massive impact next season.
  4. Myles Murphy looks great. It’s one thing to hear about how a player is much bigger going into a new season, and another to actually see it. The leap could be here.
  5. The third wideout job might just go to Andrei Iosivas. He just makes players everywhere, be it the boundary or slot.
  6. How nice is it to have a backup like Jake Browning? He’s one of the league’s best and showed it on Friday, helping everyone from Tee Higgins to roster hopefuls make plays.
  7. So far, Dax Hill certainly passes the eye test at cornerback. He might just steal the starting spot and has the upside to prosper.
  8. The Bengals confirmed the signing of three free agents. They will eat some summer snaps, but the path to the final 53 is brutally hard.
  9. Brown deserves all the hype and the first-team reps he’s getting, but Zack Moss looks to be the same type of difference-maker that makes the offense less predictable.
