8 thoughts about first padded practice of Bengals training camp

Takeaways and thoughts from the first day of pads at Bengals training camp.

The Cincinnati Bengals added the pads to the training camp mix for the first time on Tuesday to some interesting results.

Here are some quick thoughts and takeaways from the big day:

  1. It might be time to get hyped about rookie TE Erick All. He just got activated and it seemed like he would come along slow. Then, he made a huge catch over the middle in traffic, raising plenty of eyebrows.
  2. The throws from QB Joe Burrow just keep getting better and better. He’s sharp, has plenty of power behind them and even hit a nasty no-look pass.
  3. DE Myles Murphy left with an “injury” that turned out to be cramps, so no concerns there. They need a big season from the former first-rounder.
  4. Both DE Sam Hubbard and DE Trey Hendrickson were out again with the “nagging issues,” so no concern about a “hold-in” over a contract for the latter.
  5. Nice to see CB Cam Taylor-Britt out there for his first full practice. He’s the presumed No. 1 cornerback opposite, probably, Dax Hill.
  6. By now, everyone has seen the wicked touchdown catch from rookie WR Jermaine Burton. He’s got star-in-the-making written all over him.
  7. Another “hold-in” day for WR Ja’Marr Chase. Still not concerning.
  8. Good luck figuring WR out. Andrei Iosivas has been dominant and Burton is a rising presence. But Charlie Jones has started to come alive too and matters on special teams. Trenton Irwin has been as reliable as ever. Keeping six on the final 53 seems the bare minimum.
