8 NFL stars who landed massive extensions before Week 1

From Deshaun Watson to Keenan Allen, here are the biggest deals completed before Week 1.

The 2020 NFL regular season is just one week away, and as teams have been trimming their rosters to prepare for the new year, several stars around the league have been inking colossal contract extensions. Here’s a rundown of the biggest deals completed before Week 1.

Texans QB Deshaun Watson

On Saturday, the Texans and Watson confirmed that they have agreed to the second biggest contract in NFL history, trailing only Patrick Mahomes’ megadeal with the Chiefs. Watson signed a four-year extension worth $160 million that will keep him with the Texans through 2025, and also enable him to go chase another huge contract before he turns 30. The deal will have a huge impact on the QBs next in line for a payday, most notably Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, who will have Jerry Jones wishing he gave into Dak’s demands far sooner.

Chargers WR Keenan Allen

Three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen is staying with the Chargers long-term after signing a $80 million extension that will make him the second highest-paid wideout in the league.

Bills CB Tre’Davious White

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that the Bills have locked up CB Tre’Davious White. Details of the deal have yet to emerge, but for context, Eagles CB Darius Slay was the highest-paid CB in the league by average salary at $16.7 million.

Bengals RB Joe Mixon

There had been speculation from Cincinnati fans that Joe Mixon’s contract issues had contributed to his missed time in camp – Mixon was also dealing with migraine headaches – but the Bengals locked up their 24-year-old star to a four-year extension.

Colts C Ryan Kelly

The Colts made Ryan Kelly the highest-paid center in the NFL, giving the 2019 Pro Bowler a four-year, $50 million extension.

Cardinals S Budda Baker

Two-time Pro Bowler and former first-team All-Pro safety Budda Baker is now the highest-paid safety in the NFL, after inking a four-year extension worth $59 million.

49ers TE George Kittle

The 49ers made George Kittle the highest-paid tight end in the NFL in August, rewarding the 2019 first-team All-Pro with a five-year extension worth $75 million.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce

The NFL’s other premier tight end also landed a huge deal in August, as the Chiefs signed Travis Kelce to a four-year extension worth just over $57 million, which will ensure the duo of Mahomes and Kelce will be together for the next six years.
