8 more franchise tags Monday brings total to 12 as free agency set to open

Nothing like the last minute. The NFL pushed back the deadline for teams to apply the franchise to right up to the start of the free-agent negotiating period and many teams took advantage of the extra time and waited until the deadline. Eight new franchise tags were applied today. ‘They are:

QB Dak Prescott, Cowboys
WR AJ Green, Bengals
OL Joe Thuney, Patriots
ED Bud Dupree, Steelers
DI Leonard Williams, Giants
ED Shaq Barrett, Buccaneers
RB Derrick Henry, Titans
DI Chris Jones, Chiefs

These eight new tagged players make a total of 12 this offseason. The previous four came down on Friday. They were:

S Justin Simmons, Broncos
TE Hunter Henry, Chargers
ED Yannick Ngakoue, Jaguars
ED Matt Judon. Ravens

In addition, the Cardinals have put the transition tag on running back Kenyan Drake. But despite several players being kept off the market, there is still an abundance of talent that is expected to become available at noon Eastern Time today. We will continue to update this story if any more franchise tags are used ahead of the legal tampering period.
