It is Independence Day and we are one day closer to the start of the 2024 NFL regular season. In our countdown to the start of the year, the Arizona Cardinals will take the field at Highmark Stadium against the Buffalo Bills on September 8, in 66 days.
No. 66 on the roster currently is tackle Jackson Barton, who spent last season on the practice squad. He has not yet made an impact on the team.
Who was the last impactful No. 66? It was a Hall of Famer, although his time with the Cardinals won’t really be remembered.
Guard Alan Faneca wore No. 66 in 2010, his final season in the NFL. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
He played 13 seasons in the NFL and was considered to be perhaps the best guard of the generation, playing a decade for the Steelers. He was a nine-time Pro Bowler and six-time first-team All-Pro.
He was not a Pro Bowler for the Cardinals in 2010 but did start every game for them and had only one penalty all year.
We will be back for another countdown post tomorrow.
