6 trade down scenarios for Colts on Day 2 of NFL draft

What trades could the Colts make on Day 2?

Chris Ballard loves his picks, and as of now the Indianapolis Colts only have seven of them. If that were to stand that would be the fewest amount by the Colts since Ballard took over in 2017.

In the pre-draft presser, Ballard mentioned unprovoked that he wanted more picks and with Indianapolis sitting prime at pick No. 34 on Friday, a lot of teams have called about moving into that pick.

It should be expected that the Colts move back at some point in Round 2. Here are six scenarios in which that could happen:

Trade with Minnesota

Colts trade: 34
Vikings trade: 58 + 89

The Vikings currently own the No. 58 pick in the second round and could possibly move up for an EDGE player. If there were to be a trade between these two teams the Colts could move down to 58 and still have pick 44 in their back pocket. Plus, they get the Vikings’ third-round pick which sits at No. 89 overall. This trade would net the Colts picks 58 and 89 in this year’s draft, and while they would move out from 34, they would end up with 44, 58, 75, and 89 in the middle rounds of the draft.

Trade with Seattle

Colts trade: 34
Seahawks trade: 59 + 64 OR 59 + 2021 second

This hypothetical trade could go a lot of ways. Seattle went with a linebacker in the late-first round and they also have a pressing need at EDGE. For them, they don’t pick until 59th overall, 26 picks away. They could launch themselves into pick 34 with a trade of their 59th overall pick and possibly a future second-round pick, or they could also move the additional second-round pick they have, pick 64. Ballard always has an eye on the future so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him try to net a 2021 pick.

Trade with Arizona

Colts trade: 34
Cardinals trade: 72 + 114 + 131 + 2021 third

The Cardinals passed on one of the elite offensive tackles with their first-round pick last night and now don’t have a pick until the third round. They could be a team that would want to come back into the early-second and nab one of the available tackles still left. They would have to offer a lot, and the Colts would have to basically trade the pick out of the second round. The Colts could land pick 72 in the third round, 114 and 131 in the fourth plus add an additional third-round pick in next year’s draft.
