Who will be on the Cowboys’ slate of primetime opponents? They are limited to 5 but we come up with 6 potential matchups.

Why Not These Teams?

These are all guesses which will be answered in under 12 hours, but even those these are intriguing, there are reasons we think they won’t happen.

Cowboys vs San Francisco 49ers

It’s tough to see Fox giving up the rights to this historic rivalry matchup, especially with the 49ers coming off a Super Bowl appearance.

Cowboys vs Pittsburgh Steelers

We aren’t predicting a primetime matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, as that is too much of a money maker for CBS Sports not to block that from leaving their network. Most interconference games with AFC on the road appear on CBS and this game will be at AT&T Stadium.

Thanksgiving Opponent Prediction: Washington Redskins

The Cowboys alternate NFC and AFC opponents and even years means it’s going to be an NFC foe this season.  Although not a primetime game, the Thanksgiving slates are all single-game slots meaning that the nation’s eyes will all be glued to one game and one game only.

For most of the recent rotation, the Redskins have been the NFC opponent, in 2012, 2016 and 2018. We aren’t predicting the team many expect to compete for the No. 1 overall selection in 2021 to get many primetime matchups so we’ll leave them out of the Dallas likelies, but a special nod goes out to what would seem like the perfect traditional fit.
