5 teams, 12 trade-down draft scenarios for Cowboys, Jordan Love

It may be tough for the Cowboys to increase their overall draft capital, but in this year’s draft, more picks could be what they need.

What Kind of Haul Could Dallas Get?

 Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

According to the traditional draft chart, here are the individual values of Dallas’ current seven picks:

17 – 950
51 – 390
82 – 180
123 – 49
164 – 24.6
179 – 18.6
231 – 1

Assuming Dallas has no reason to take less value for their pick, here are some easy scenarios where the three teams behind them could move up.

Miami

Option 1:  18 (900 pts) + 141 (35.5 pts) + 173 (21 pts) = 956.5 pts
Option 2: 18 (900 pts) + 153 (29 pts) + 154 (28.6 pts) = 957.6 pts

In the next scenario, Dallas could move up 12 spots in Round 3 just for moving back one spot for a player they wouldn’t take.

Option 3: 18 (900) + 70 (240) for DAL 17 (950) + 82 (180) = 1140 for 1130

If the Cowboys were willing to make a major drop in exchange for a bigger value reward from Miami, they could see an offer that would gain 30 points, the equivalent of an early fifth-round selection.

Option 4: 26 (700) + 39 (510) + 56 (340) for DAL 17 (950) + 51 (390) + 81 (180) = 1550 for 1520

Las Vegas

Option 1: 19 (875) + 121 (52) + 159 (26.6) = 953.6 pts
Option 2: 19 (875) + 91 (136) for DAL 17 (950) + 123 (49) + 179 (18.6) = 1011 for 1017.6

Jacksonville

Option 1: 20 (850) + 116 (62) + 137 (37.5) = 949.5 pts
Option 2: 20 (850) + 42 (480) + 189 (14.6) for DAL 17 (950) + 51 (390) = 1344.6 for 1340
Option 3: 20 (850) + 73 (225) + 116 (62) for DAL 17 (950) + 82 (180) = 1137 for 1130

New England

Option 1: 23 (760) + 98 (108) + 100 (100) for DAL 17 (950) 179 (18.6) = 968 for 968.6
Option 2: 23 (760) + 87 (155) + 125 (47) + 212 (5.4) + 241 (1) for DAL 17 (950) + 179 (18.6) = 968.4 for 968.6

Of course, a team looking to acquire Love is hardly the only scenario where the Cowboys could find a trade partner. The Seattle Seahawks are known draft-day trade bandits and would have no interest in Love, but may still eye a prospect they’d move for. Many teams might be eyeing a sliding prospect such as one of the top-three receivers (Jerry Jeudy, Ceedee Lamb or Henry Ruggs III), or a DT like Javon Kinlaw or corner like C.J. Henderson. Many in Cowboys Nation would be highly disappointed if Dallas traded away from one, some or all of these names, but it could happen.

We’ll play out the Seattle scenario, probably the most perfect scenario for Dallas if they are comfortable letting another 10 prospects go off the board before they select.

Seattle Seahawks

Option 1: 27 (680) + 64 (270) = 950 points
