All division teams can be a little strange at times. Mainly because they aren’t just a list of the best players in the division, they’re a team made up of the supposed best players at specific positions. So, a lesser player at a weak position will make the team over a better player at a strong position.
The Raiders end up falling victim to this in the latest Football Outsiders All-AFC West team.
For those who follow or cover the Raiders, there is probably some pretty fair agreement of who their best players are. First of all, Darren Waller is easily the star of the squad. Then the team’s other Pro Bowler Josh Jacobs along with three-time Pro Bowl center Rodney Hudson.
You might be surprised to learn that none of them were on the FO All-AFC West team.
Five Raiders players did make the team, however. They are as follows:
WR Nelson Agholor
LT Kolton Miller
RG Gabe Jackson
ED Maxx Crosby
P AJ Cole
Agholor finished in the top ten in DYAR. Miller beat out Eric Fisher. Crosby beat out Bradley Chubb. Not surprisingly Crosby was the Raiders’ only defender on the team. Cole beat out Chiefs Tommy Townsend who was a disaster in the Super Bowl.
Travis Kelce beat out Waller as the only tight end in the NFL who would. Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler made the team at RB over Jacobs. And they said four blown blocks this season by Hudson caused him to lose out to Austin Reiter.
