5 players added to 49ers active roster for season finale

The San Francisco 49ers will have 5 new players on the roster for their season finale vs. the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers rash of injury issues before their Week 17 matchup led to a number of additions to the active roster Saturday. San Francisco announced five players were added to the roster through various means.

Offensive lineman Tom Compton was added from the Injured Reserve list after missing three weeks with a concussion. He could see time at either center or right guard while the team continues to try and figure out the interior of their offensive line.

Defensive lineman Josiah Coatney and offensive lineman Isaiah Williams were both added from the practice squad as COVID-19 replacements. San Francisco has four players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Coatney will join the club as a COVID-19 replacement, but his real role will be adding depth along the defensive front with Javon Kinlaw and Kevin Givens both ruled out.

The 49ers also flexed wide receiver Jordan Matthews and kicker Tristan Vizcaino to the roster from the practice squad. Matthews has been with the practice squad on two separate occasions this year. He’ll provide depth with Trent Taylor, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk all out. Vizcaino will take over kicking duties for Robbie Gould after Gould went on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
