There’ll be a strange quirk for attentive 49ers fans looking to watch their showdown with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
San Francisco will face their NFC West rival at 1:05pm Pacific Time, but the game between the pair of NFC clubs will not be broadcast on FOX. For a long time NFC games were exclusively on FOX while the AFC lived on CBS. A new wrinkle in the NFL’s TV deals allows some flexibility among the conferences. Under the old system the visiting team would dictate where the game was broadcast.
Here’s a map of where the game will be broadcast, via 506 Sports. The 49ers and Cardinals game will show in the blue areas of the map below:
A 49ers-Cardinals game showing on CBS will certainly look and sound a little different than usual. The scorebug, graphics and music will all be different. So will the broadcasters with Ian Eagle and Charles Davis both on the call.
This will likely be the 49ers’ lone CBS game for the rest of the year with ABC and FOX slated to carry their next two contests. Their Week 18 matchup against the Rams is still TBD.
