49ers WR Deebo Samuel ruled out of opener vs. Cardinals

Starting center Ben Garland is also questionable.

The Arizona Cardinals will face a San Francisco 49ers offensive squad not at full strength as the season begins. Receiver Deebo Samuel, expected to be their top wideout in 2020, has been ruled out of the game this week in the final injury report of the week.

He has been recovering from a broken bone in his left foot and did not practice all week.

Cornerback Jason Verrett (hamstring) also was ruled out of the game after not practicing all week.

Rookie wideout Brandon Aiyuk, dealing with a hamstring since training camp, was limited in practice on Friday for the second day in a row after sitting out Wednesday.

He is officially questionable for the game on Sunday against the Cardinals.

Starting center Ben Garland is also questionable after he was limited all week in practice with an ankle injury.

With Samuel’s absence and Aiyuk’s potential absence, it means an increased role for Kendrick Bourne, Trent Taylor and Dante Pettis.
