49ers wont face Giants star RB Saquon Barkley on Thursday Night Football

With Saquon Barkley expected to miss Thursday’s game against the 49ers with an injury, Matt Breida could see an increased role against his former team.

Coming off a gritty divisional win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday to move to 2-0, the San Francisco 49ers won’t have much time to celebrate with a short week ahead.

Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers will have to start prepping for a Thursday Night Football contest against the New York Giants. However, the 49ers won’t have to worry about preparing for the Giants star running back.

After suffering an ankle injury late in the game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Barkley will reportedly miss some time, including Thursday’s contest against the 49ers.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Barkley will miss three weeks with an ankle sprain.

Barkley is coming off a two-touchdown performance against the Cardinals in Week 2. He notched 63 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown along with 29 yards receiving and one touchdown reception.

Without Barkley, former Niner Matt Breida will likely see an increased role at Levis Stadium on Thursday night.
