The 49ers traded up in the NFL draft. They moved to No. 87 by sending pick Nos. 102, 164 and 222 to the Minnesota Vikings. They selected Penn State safety Ji’Ayir Brown.
Brown is 5-11, 203 pounds with the versatility and athleticism to play both safety spots in San Francisco’s defense.
He began his college career with two seasons at Lackawanna Junior College before transferring to Penn State where he spent three years. He played in 35 games with 26 starts and posted 153 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 19 pass breakups and 10 interceptions.
The 49ers aren’t done just yet though. They’re slated to pick again with pick No. 101 in the third round.
