49ers to work out 4 OL and a familiar face at TE

The 49ers are set to hold workouts for four offensive linemen and a tight end.

The 49ers’ attempts to improve their roster on the margins include more workouts with just a couple weeks left in camp. On top of a reported workout with offensive lineman Jamon Harmon, San Francisco will also have offensive linemen Ted Larsen, Dakoda Shepley and Isaiah Williams, along with former 49ers TE MarQueis Gray in for workouts according to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner.

Larsen, 33, has been in the NFL for a decade after the Patriots made him a sixth-round pick in the 2010 draft. He wound up spending his first four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then two years in Arizona, one with Chicago, two in Miami, then was back in Chicago last season. Across his 10 seasons, Larsen has played all three interior line spots in 137 games with 88 starts. His versatility would be a welcome addition for a 49ers club with a pretty beat up interior offensive line.

Shepley was signed by the Jets as an undrafted rookie in 2018 before getting drafted No. 5 overall in the 2019 Canadian Football League draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He had a successful season in the CFL and was voted his team’s Most Outstanding Rookie, but opted to head to the NFL when the CFL cancelled its 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Williams joined the NFL in 2016 as an undrafted rookie with Washington. He had multiple stints with Washington, and also bounced to the Chiefs, Colts, Raiders, Saints and Ravens. He’s yet to play in an NFL game, and during the course of his career made a positional change from tackle to guard.

The 49ers were Gray’s initial club when the made him an undrafted free agent signing following the 2013 draft. He wound up landing with the Browns his rookie season, then spent time with the Vikings, Bills and Dolphins between 2013 and 2017. In his five seasons, Gray has 27 catches and 328 yards through the air. He also has 11 carries for 57 yards on the ground. He hasn’t played in an NFL game since the 2017 season.
