After missing most of training camp and all of the preseason, the All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey will make his highly-anticipated return to practice on Thursday, just five days out from the San Francisco 49ers’ regular-season opener against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.

However, his return won’t be at 100%. Prior to Thursday’s practice in Santa Clara, the 49ers released their practice injury report with McCaffrey listed as limited due to calf and Achilles ailments.

The calf injury for McCaffrey is the same one that has held him out for a large chunk of training camp. The 49ers will likey continue to be cautious with one of the top engines of their offense.

McCaffrey is coming off a first-team All-Pro season, rushing for a career-best 1459 yards to go along with a ridiculous 21 touchdowns.
