49ers sign CB Jamar Taylor, waive Teez Tabor

The 49ers made some changes to their cornerback room this week.

The 49ers made a couple of changes to their cornerback group on Monday, signing one player and waiving another. The team announced it has added free agent Jamar Taylor and waived Teez Tabor with a non-football injury designation.

Taylor is entering his eighth season in the NFL after spending 2019 with the Seahawks and Falcons. He hasn’t started a game since 2018 when he was with the Cardinals, and has 41 career starts in the NFL.

He came into the league as a second-round pick by the Dolphins after an impressive career at Boise State. His career got off to a slow start, however, and he didn’t start more than six games in a season until 2016 with the Browns. He has three career interceptions, all of which came in that year.

The 49ers signed Tabor to their practice squad last October after he was cut by the Lions before the 2019 season began. As a second-round pick in the 2017 draft, his release from Detroit came as somewhat of a surprise.

In five starts (22 games) for the Lions in 2017 and 2018, he made 42 tackles but didn’t break up a single pass or record an interception. His future in the NFL is now very much up in the air after being cut for a second time.
