49ers roster moves: Johnathan Cyprien waived, DL released off practice squad

The 49ers waived safety Johnathan Cyprien, who’d been on IR since week 10 with a hamstring injury.

The 49ers on Tuesday announced a pair of minor roster moves. They released safety Johnathan Cyprien from the active roster. Defensive lineman Willie Henry Jr. was let go from the practice squad.

Cyprien joined the 49ers late in training camp and wound up landing on the practice squad before injuries forced the team to elevate him to the active roster in Week 7. He hurt his hamstring against the Saints and was placed on Injured Reserve. There was no announcement of an injury settlement or his activation off the injured list which indicates he was let go from IR. Cyprien played in four games and only saw action on special teams.

Henry Jr. spent time with the 49ers in the offseason before getting waived late in camp. He re-signed with the practice squad on Oct. 27 and was flexed to the active roster for one game against the Rams while San Francisco was missing a slew of defensive linemen. He played just four snaps before reverting back to the practice squad after the game.
