The 49ers on Saturday announced defensive lineman Akeem Spence would be elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game in Denver.
With defensive tackle Arik Armstead listed as ‘questionable,’ Spence gives the 49ers some insurance if Armstead is unable to suit up. Armstead is dealing with a foot injury and didn’t practice at all in the lead up to Week 3. His status remains unchanged though. He’s still ‘questionable’ and hasn’t been downgraded.
Spence, 30, has played in 110 games with 57 starts since joining the NFL as a fourth-round pick of the Buccaneers in 2013. He’s posted 10.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss. The 49ers signed Spence early in training camp. He was let go at final cuts and the next day joined San Francisco’s practice squad.
If Spence plays in Denver it would be his 2022 regular-season debut.
