49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall set for NFL debut 7 weeks after shooting

The first-round pick was shot during an attempted robbery on Aug. 31.

When the San Francisco 49ers take on the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall is set to suit up for the first time this season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s an NFL debut we didn’t know when we’d see as just shy of seven weeks ago on Aug. 31, Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in San Francisco’s Union Square neighborhood.

Pearsall had to be hospitalized overnight as a result, but he has now fully recovered and is ready to return to the field.

A first-round pick from Florida who began his career at Arizona State, Pearsall was selected at No. 31 overall this past spring. He had a breakout senior season with the Gators in 2023, leading the team with 965 yards on 65 catches to go with six total touchdowns.

He’s perhaps best known for making one of the plays of the entire season in college football last fall with his ridiculous one-handed grab in a win over Charlotte.

While Pearsall’s future in football was momentarily put on hold due to scary circumstances, he’s finally set to make his first appearance in a 49ers uniform.
