The San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday released wide receiver Jordan Matthews from the team’s practice squad.
The six-year veteran had been providing depth at a position where the Niners have been hit heavily by injuries this season. However, much of the receiving corps’ injuries are now on the mend and their COVID-19 list is empty.
Matthews has played in 73 career games, hauled in 274 passes for 3288 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns. Earlier this season, Matthews appeared in 3 games for the Philadelphia Eagles and made four receptions for 33 yards. After he was cut by the Eagles, the 49ers signed him to their practice squad. He was active for one game with the team but did not record any statistics.
