Losing one quarterback for the season apparently wasn’t enough for the San Francisco 49ers.
During Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins, Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a foot injury early on and was unable to return. Kyle Shanahan shared some terrible news after the game, telling reporters that Garoppolo broke his foot and will require surgery.
He’ll miss the rest of the season, an absolutely crushing blow for the 49ers.
Kyle Shanahan confirmed in the postgame press conference that Jimmy G's foot injury will require season-ending surgery.

Brock Purdy replaced Garoppolo and led the 49ers to a 33-17 win after they fell behind 7-0 early, throwing two touchdown passes and one interception. He’ll presumably remain the starter moving forward.
With Garoppolo sidelined, the 49ers’ title chances took a major hit. Trey Lance was already lost for the year after he fractured his ankle in Week 2, and Shanahan has ruled out a return in 2022 – even if the 49ers make the playoffs.
