49ers injury update: Trent Williams won’t practice to start Week 10

Trent Williams still isn’t practicing for the #49ers while he nurses an ankle injury he sustained in Week 6.

The 49ers won’t have left tackle Trent Williams when they take the practice field Wednesday to begin on-field preparations for a Week 10 showdown against Jacksonville.

Williams injured his ankle in the first quarter of Week 6 and hasn’t practiced or played since playing the rest of Week 6 with the injury. It’s not a great sign that he’s still out. He didn’t participate in Monday’s bonus session either.

However, Williams typically gets Wednesdays off during the season for veteran rest so it’s not out of the question the team is just giving him maximum rest to ensure his ankle is healed.

Thursday should be more telling about his potential availability. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has said Williams won’t need to practice to play in a given week, but given that the veteran LT hasn’t practiced since Week 6 the team may want him to get at least a little on-field work in before he plays in a game.
