The 49ers on Tuesday began preparations for their divisional playoff game vs. the Green Bay Packers. They’ll do so with running back Christian McCaffrey as a full participant according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
McCaffrey’s calf strain was a key reason San Francisco so badly needed the first-round playoff bye. He was nicked up in the team’s Week 17 win over the Commanders, then missed the season finale against the Rams with a calf injury. He’s now back in practice and is on track to suit up in the 49ers’ playoff opener.
This was the expectation all along and Shanahan never gave any real indication there was a fear McCaffrey would miss any postseason time. Soft tissue injuries can be tricky though and the All-Pro running back didn’t participate at all in the couple of sessions the team had during its week off. There was at least a minor question as to whether and when McCaffrey would be ready to play, but his full practice Tuesday is the best possible sign on that front.
