49ers injury update: Christian McCaffrey OUT vs. Vikings

It’s the Jordan Mason Show again in Minnesota.

The San Francisco 49ers have officially ruled out running back Christian McCaffrey for their Week 2 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

McCaffrey was the lone player ruled out for San Francisco on its injury report. He is still dealing with calf and Achilles injuries. This will be his second consecutive absence of the season, and this time the 49ers left no doubt as to his status for the game against the Vikings.

Talanoa Hufanga is listed as doubtful for the second consecutive week as he recovers from a torn ACL he suffered last season. He was limited all week in practice for the second time in as many weeks.

Linebacker Dee Winters is questionable with an ankle injury. That’s an upgrade for the second-year LB who was out for the season opener.

Not listed are wide receiver Jauan Jennings (ankle), left guard Aaron Banks (finger, calf) and defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (knee).

Gross-Matos will make his 49ers debut after missing the season opener with a knee sprain. He was out of practice Wednesday, limited Thursday, and a full participant on Friday. He’ll improve the 49ers’ DE depth significantly.
