49ers injury update: CB Samuel Womack out vs. Rams, likely to go on IR

The #49ers will be without CB Samuel Womack vs. the Rams.

The 49ers will enter their Week 2 matchup against the Rams lacking a little in cornerback depth.

Second-year CB Samuel Womack is officially ruled out with a knee injury according to the team’s injury report. He’s the only player listed after linebacker Dre Greenlaw worked through a groin injury to participate in full for Friday’s practice.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan after practice told reporters that Womack would likely go on IR. He’d be eligible to return after four weeks.

With Womack out the team will likely bring up one of its practice squad cornerbacks to give the team some added depth at that spot. Qwuantrezz Knight, Tre Swilling and Shemar Jean-Charles are the three cornerbacks on their practice squad.

Knight had a strong training camp and has been with the team since signing as an undrafted rookie after last year’s draft. He figures to be first in line for an elevation to the active roster.
