After dismantling the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers are back in the Super Bowl for the first time since 2012. The Niners are 5-1 in the big game and can match the Steelers and Patriots for a record-tying sixth Super Bowl title, so let’s go down mostly Montana memory lane to look at their SB results.
Super Bowl XVI (1982)
How old-school was this SB? Well, it was played at the Silverdome in Detroit, Diana Ross sang the national anthem and the halftime show was themed: Up with People presents “Salute to the 1960s and Motown”.
Awesome.
Joe Montana, who led the Niners to a 26-21 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, was named MVP even though he threw for only 157 yards and one touchdown.
