The 49ers could be aiming to add some wide receiver depth to their offseason roster. While WR could certainly be a target in the NFL draft, they’re also exploring the free agent market and hosting WR Laquon Treadwell on a visit per NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.
Treadwell hasn’t been able to put it all together as a pro since being selected by the Vikings in the first round of the 2016 draft. Across seven seasons he’s been with four teams and posted 110 catches for 1,226 yards and five touchdowns.
He was with the Vikings for four years before bouncing to the Falcons, Jaguars and Seahawks. Treadwell’s best year came with the Jaguars in 2021 when he hauled in 33 catches for 434 yards and one touchdown in 12 games. Last year he was with Seattle for six games and caught six balls for 42 yards.
If the 49ers are going to make any free agency adds at WR, Treadwell is the exact type of player who makes sense. He’s a former first-round pick who could conceivably revitalize his career with the San Francisco. The potential reward far outweighs the low risk. And with just seven WRs on the offseason roster, it would be a surprise if there isn’t more depth added for the offseason.
