The 49ers had so many things go their way in Week 13, but they couldn’t capitalize with a win over the Bills. Now, instead of being the No. 8 seed tied at 6-6 with the Vikings and Cardinals, they’re the No. 11 seed chasing four teams.
Here’s what the playoff picture looks like following Week 13 action:
1. Saints* (10-2)
2. Packers (9-3)
3. Rams (8-4)
4. Giants (5-7)
5. Seattle (8-4)
6. Buccaneers (7-5)
7. Vikings (6-6)
8. Cardinals (6-6)
9. Bears (5-7)
10. Lions (5-7)
11. 49ers (5-7)
12. Washington (5-7)
*clinched playoff spot
A 34-24 loss to Buffalo didn’t sink San Francisco’s already slim playoff hopes, but it certainly didn’t help.
Their margin of error was extremely slim, and it was all but erased with Monday night’s defeat. There are ways they can get in with one more loss and three wins in their final eight games, but that’s going to take a lot of help. Not to mention it involves the 49ers knocking off a couple good teams down the stretch.
It’s not over for San Francisco as they search for their second-consecutive playoff berth, but the climb only got steeper after Week 13.
