49ers add familiar free agent CB and TE

The San Francisco 49ers added CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun and TE Daniel Helm back to their roster.

The 49ers on Wednesday announced a pair of signings that’ll bring back a couple familiar faces who spent time with the club last year. Cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun and tight end Daniel Helm will both rejoin the club on one-year deals.

Boddy-Calhoun, 28, played in one game for San Francisco last year and spent time on their practice squad. The five-year veteran has three interceptions and 19 pass breakups in 47 career games, including 22 starts. He figures to factor into the 49ers’ search for a slot corner if they’re unable to retain K’Waun Williams.

Helm was an undrafted free agent with the Chargers in 2019, but joined the 49ers early in the offseason. He was on the active roster in 2019 and didn’t see any action. Helm made his way back to the 49ers after stops in Kansas City and Tampa Bay, and he appeared in five games last while also bouncing back and forth between the practice squad and active roster last season. He’ll have a chance to battle for a TE spot on the back end of the roster, although his climb will be steep.
