The 49ers on Wednesday made several roster moves after a wave of injuries in Week 2.  They officially placed defensive end Nick Bosa and defensive lineman Solomon Thomas on Injured Reserve. They also announced the signing of defensive end Ezekiel Ansah, and the promotion of defensive end Dion Jordan from the practice squad. The team filled its two open practice squad spots as well with running back Austin Walter and defensive lineman Alex Barrett.

Bosa and Thomas both tore their ACLs vs. the Jets in Week 2 and will be out for the season. Ansah was a player the 49ers targeted in the offseason but the two sides couldn’t come to terms on a deal. He’ll become a key player for San Francisco as they continue trying to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks without sending additional pass rushers. Ansah was the No. 5 pick in the 2013 draft by the Lions and has 50.5 sacks in 91 career games. Last season he had 2.5 sacks in 11 games for the Seahawks.

Jordan was the No. 3 overall pick in 2013 by the Dolphins. He’s had a less successful career than Ansah though with 10.5 sacks in 50 games. He was brought in during camp to give the team some added depth on the edge, but he didn’t perform well enough to make the active roster. Now he’ll get a chance to make an impact as a rotational player on the outside, although his role will likely be minimal barring more injuries at the position.

Walter and Barrett have both spent time with the 49ers. Barrett was on the practice squad last season and with the team in camp this offseason on multiple occasions. San Francisco signed Walter last year as an undrafted rookie out of Rice. He spent camp with the 49ers before getting cut and landing on the Giants’ practice squad for a couple weeks. His last action came in the XFL before the league was disbanded. Walter was one of a trio of backs to work out for the 49ers on Tuesday.

The 49ers and their new-look defensive line will face the Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 10:00 am Pacific Time.
