The Los Angeles Rams didn’t have an easy time containing Christian McCaffrey in their Week 6 win over the Carolina Panthers, and unfortunately for them, they’ll be tasked with slowing down the All-Pro running back again in Week 8.
The San Francisco 49ers have acquired McCaffrey from the Panthers, sending Carolina second-, third- and fourth-round picks in 2023, as well as a fifth-rounder in 2024. It’s a massive haul for the star running back, likely making the 49ers the favorites in the division.
It’s rare for a team to face the same player in consecutive games, but that’s what the Rams will do against McCaffrey. They’re currently on their bye in Week 7, returning the following week to take on the 49ers – and McCaffrey – for the second time this season.
Trade comp: 49ers are sending second-, third- and fourth-round picks in 2023 and a fifth-round pick in 2024 in exchange for RB Christian McCaffrey, sources tell ESPN.

Against the Rams in Week 6, McCaffrey had 69 yards rushing on 13 attempts and 89 yards on seven receptions, totaling 158 yards on just 20 touches. He forced two missed tackles as a runner and three as a receiver, proving to be difficult to get on the ground.
Now in the 49ers’ offense, which features many more weapons than Carolina’s roster, McCaffrey will be even tougher to contain.
