49 days till the Cardinals’ season opener against the Bills

No. 49 is a rarely used number for the Cardinals. Rashad Johnson wore it from 2009-2012.

It is the last Sunday before the start of training camp for the Arizona Cardinals. They report to camp ni two days. In 49 days, their regular season starts.

In seven weeks from today (49 days), they will take the field at Highmark Stadium to face the Buffalo Bills on the road.

The Cardinals currently do not have a player on the roster wearing No. 49.

It has not been a popular number.

Linebacker Kylie Fitts wore No. 49 for three seasons but didn’t really make much of an impact.

The last player to make a real impact and wear No. 49 was safety Rashad Johnson. He wore No. 49 from 2009-2012 but he really made his impact starting in 2013 and he changed his number to 26.

He was a standout special teams player in 2012 while wearing No. 49 and eventually became one of the most reliable defensive players and was a leader on what would be one of the best secondaries the Cardinals have had.
